miniReview: The Wrestler (2008)
Ironically enough, just after posting my favorite movies of 2008 and complaining that no film really stood out, we saw The Wrestler which is clearly the winner of 2008 so far.
Since Pi (1998) and after the violent Requiem for a Dream (2000), Mr Aronofsky matured a lot. He stopped fiddling with film making and special effects to start using them to tell the story he wants to share.

With Avalon (2001), I was very sad to see Director Oshii loosing himself in Computer Graphics, abstract/esoteric/metaphysic plot and blur filters. I really hated the movie, maybe because I was expected a lot from it.
Ghost In The Shell (one of my favorite animes and an excellent film) already had those elements but Oshii managed to have a perfect balance between them, making the film both...
